Opera Collective Ireland presents Cautionary Tales
A mischievous opera for children, families, and schools on tour this September
Opera Collective Ireland brings a bold new opera on tour this autumn with Cautionary Tales – a wickedly funny and delightfully naughty work for children, families, and schools. Touring to Bray, Tallaght, Navan, and Dundalk from 13–21 September, this fast-paced production is the perfect opportunity to swap screen time for live theatre, with something for all ages to enjoy.
Composed by Errollyn Wallen and based on Hilaire Belloc’s classic cautionary poems, the opera brings to life the misadventures of Rebecca, Jim, Henry, George, and Matilda – whose outrageous behaviour leads to unexpectedly hilarious consequences. Packed with dark humour, colourful characters, and catchy music, Cautionary Tales offers a smart and playful experience for young audiences and the adults who bring them.
Directed by Sarah Baxter and conducted by Stephen Barlow, with set and lighting by Zia Bergin-Holly and costumes by Jenny Whyte, the production features Leanne Fitzgerald, Eiméar Harper, William Pearson, and Dylan Rooney – and is presented in collaboration with The Lir.
Whether you’re a school planning a cultural outing or a family looking for something fresh and fun, Cautionary Tales is a brilliant introduction to live opera and theatrical storytelling.
Performances will take place in Bray, Tallaght, Navan, and Dundalk from 13–21 September – booking details available here.
