Maria Loomes

Educated in Dublin with qualifications from UCD and TCD, Maria Loomes grew up in a musical home and music has always been an essential part of her life, from her days as a student in the Royal Irish Academy of Music and as a piano teacher for many years. She has a particular love for opera and piano and an interest in the development of young talent.

Maria had a long career as an Information Systems professional across a number of organisations including both Trinity College Dublin and Diageo. She is an experienced leader and manager especially in the area of implementing technology-led change and also the governance and controls required for successful outcomes.

Always involved with education and especially access to educational opportunities, she served on the Governing Body of the Dundalk Institute of Technology for nearly ten years. Maria became an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Information Systems in Trinity College Dublin where she lectured for almost twenty years. As a member of the Council of the Irish Computer Society she helped create and develop the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) which improved access to computer literacy for all and is now being implemented world-wide.

Retired from her full-time roles, Maria is still actively involved with a number of musical and educational organisations both as a board member/trustee and as an active volunteer and supporter.
