Behind the Curtain of OCI’s Baroque Double Bill
As Opera Collective Ireland (OCI) prepared for its much-anticipated appearance at the Kammeroper Festival in Schloss Rheinsberg, the rehearsal room buzzed with the vibrant energy of collaboration from our incredible cast and creative team.
Under the expert baton of baroque specialist Christian Curnyn and the visionary direction of Tony award-winning Patrick Mason, the rehearsals deepened the connection between the artists and the emotions and dramatic intensity of these enchanting baroque operas – Dido & Aeneas by Henry Purcell and Venus & Adonis by John Blow.
Together artists from Opera Collective Ireland, the world-renowned Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Akamus), and Irish vocal ensemble Resurgam crafted an unforgettable experience for audiences, as part of Zeitgeist Irland 24. Celebrating a decade of extraordinary performances, this production marked OCI’s 10th anniversary and a reunion of talent. The stage welcomed back both seasoned veterans and fresh voices, all of whom had been an integral part of OCI’s journey over the past ten years.
Capturing this journey at Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Frances Marshall of Marshall Light Studio encapsulated the essence of our rehearsals, highlighting the passion and dedication of this exceptional cast and creative team. Her photography not only documented the process but also immortalised the spirit of collaboration that defines Opera Collective Ireland.
This project is part of Zeitgeist Irland 24, an initiative of Culture Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Germany.
