Wyn Davies
Wyn Davies was the Director of Music for New Zealand Opera from 2005 to 2019. His conducting life has taken him from Inverness to Invercargill. After Gowerton Schoof in South Wales and Christchurch Oxford he served his apprenticeship as a repetiteur and chorus master at Welsh National Opera. He went on to conduct at English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, English Touring Opera, Opera Northern Ireland and Carl Rosa Opera. He was for two years an assistant at the Metropolitan Opera, New York and was also for two years at the Banff Centre for Performing Arts in Canada.
Elsewhere, conducting as taken Wyn to South Africa, Australia, Japan, Croatia, Spain, Belgium, France and Italy.
He has conducted concerts with several BBC orchestras, the Halle, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, New Zealand Symphonia Orchestra, Royale Orchestra de Wallonie.
In 2012 Wyn was the recipient of the Welsh Music Guild’s award for Outstanding Contribution to Welsh Music. He has also been music director for several of John Metcalf’s operas including the 2014 Under Milk Wood.
